Escape the Shoveling for Some Weekend Fun!

Are you tired of shoveling? Are the kids tired of making snowmen? Then check out some of these fun things to do this weekend!

Winter Farmers Market. Chase away the winter blues and cold with some fresh produce, cheese, eggs, meat and more at the Winter Farmers Market at the Arts at the Armory in Somerville. Also enjoy some live entertainment while stocking up on products from 30 vendors.  Saturday from 9:30-2:00.

New Art Unveiling, FridayFabric Artist Nancy Morgan is unveiling her newest fabric art piece “Ceres Street” at her art gallery at 238 State Street in Portsmouth. The Event will take place on Friday, January 5, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.  The gallery exclusively features Morgan’s textured scenes of coastal life. Light refreshments will be served.

Rockabye Beats and Pineapple Party, Saturday.  The name alone sounds like fun! Bring the kids to this interactive music party that's fun for the whole family, featuring songs, dance and play, all while introducing other languages, melody, rhythm, tempo and pitch.  Saturday from 10:00-11:30 at The Burren in Somerville.

Bells & Bones Tour at King's Chapel in Boston.  Learn about life and death in colonial Boston. The tour beings in an 18th century crypt and includes a climb to the bell tower. Recommended for ages 10 and above, the tour takes place several times a day.

Have you heard of McIntyre Ski Area?  It's located just a few minutes "up the road" in Manchester, NH and if offers skiing and snowboarding, PLUS an eight-lane snow tubing park (the longest tubing run in New England), a “Wonder Carpet” conveyor lift and a 9,000 sq. ft. lodge and café.

Winter Reimagined at the Tower Hill Botanic Center in Boylston, MA on Saturday and Sunday.  This is the last weekend for the annual event, where you can explore the gardens, trails, conservatories, and uniquely decorated trees and nature-inspired ornaments in the winter wonderland (especially after today) setting!

Horse-drawn sleigh ride anyone? Experience all winter has to offer at King Pine, Purity Spring Resort in Madison, NH.  Bundle up for the ride, then enjoy a campfire and hot chocolate! Or ski, snowboard, tube, ice skate in the covered "dome" or snowshoe.  Equipment is available to rent, or bring your own. There's also lodging offering an indoor pool, fitness center and restaurant.  A great weekend escape!

Raise your spirits with some locally distilled spirits at the Short Path Distillery in Everett.  Tours are at 2 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Cocktails are served during regular tasting room hours (Noon-11 pm on Saturday and 1-6 pm on Sunday) with an ever-evolving list of cocktails featuring Short Path Distillery spirits and a weekly cocktail special. You are welcome to BYO food or order delivery to the tasting room.

Behind the Scenes Refuge Tour of the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge in in Newburyport, Saturday and Sunday. Join a refuge ranger for an up close and personal behind the scenes van tour of Parker River National Wildlife Refuge. There will be several brief stops along the way and binoculars are recommended. Advance registration is required.

Do you miss the old days of hanging out in the arcade? Head to Arcade Era Karaoke at Bit Bar in Salem, MA on Sunday night.  Sing your favorite 80s and 90s songs, play classic arcade games and grab some food and drink.  Located in the former Salem Jailhouse at the edge of downtown Salem.
