Choosing New Kitchen Appliances
Kitchen appliances make your space function, but what happens if you need to replace them? How do you choose the best appliances for your kitchen? Here's a look at how to choose the major appliances for your kitchen.
Stove and oven
There are many options for stoves and ovens. Some designs split them as a wall oven and a cooktop, or you can get a combination range. If your home has natural gas, you can consider that option, though there is a push to eliminate natural gas appliances in the future. You can also look into using propane, hooking up a tank outside your home, to have the same feel and control as using natural gas. Electricity gives you the option of a standard or convection oven, like a large air fryer. You can have an electric cooktop or induction range, which remains cold to the touch and works with stainless cookware. Double over ranges are increasingly popular, with a small over on top and a larger on the bottom. There's no need to heat up a big oven if you don't need all the space!
Refrigerator
Refrigerator/freezers also come in many styles. You can choose side by side or top and bottom. Top freezers were very popular for a long time, but bottom-drawer freezers are becoming more common today, as they are more efficient (remember from science class that heat rises). You can also choose to include an ice or water dispenser. Higher-end refrigerators have features like snack doors and opage windows to see what's in the fridge rather than opening the door and gazing over the contents. Investing in a smart refrigerator that connects via the internet provides additional functionality.
Dishwasher
For many people, a dishwasher is no longer a luxury. Dishwashers come in all shapes and sizes that can fit into any kitchen style. Most new dishwashers are whisper quiet and many are energy efficient, using much less water than handwashing, so they're worth the investment.
Energy efficiency
Be sure to think about energy efficiency when purchasing new appliances. Many brands and models have smart components, which can help reduce your energy load and change your kitchen use. Appliances that use water will often regulate that usage to avoid waste. It's not just enough to pick an appliance color or finish these days!
